Dagon
1. Dagon is an old town,
Far older than its name.
The English found some homes there
When William Wallace came;
Lately they took themselves away,
But untouched they leave its fame.
2. Dagon is a big city now
But always incomplete,
With tons of brick and mortar
And extending miles of street,
Hosts of cheerful human hearts
And ever-hurrying feet.
3. Dagon is a busy town
Where traffic never stops,
Men around the offices.
Women swarm the shops,
Children fill the various schools
Or play with kites and tops.
4.Dagon is a rich town
With gold and goods galore;
More jewels in woman fineries
Than ever monarchs wore;
More wealth within its boundaries
Than Pegan Kings of yore.
5. Dagon is a gay town
To those who knew its ways.
For one can get everything
So long as one sufficiently pays.
World travellers come and go
And willingly give their praise.
6. Dagon is a crowded town
Since its freedom from English reign,
For the country-folk come and stay
Just to rid from insurgents' srain.
Roads and drains in hopeless state
Keeping every one from healthy gain.
7.Dagon was my birth-place right
Being cradled in its lap.
With all its brisk and bustling ways,
Never have I experienced a mishap.
Thank Lord Buddha for my shining star
That guides me over every gap.
8. Dagon is a sacred town
With Shwedagon, the auspicious shrine;
Aloft it stands in golden spire
Looking so majestic and fine.
Hoads of pilgrims make yearly visits
In raiments of different design.
9. Dagon is metropolitan town,
Where the President in Aindaw lives,
Ruling in, lieu of Absolute Monarchs.
People, getting greatly roused, now give
Tokens to erect the two Houses,
For governing the Union into progressive.
A Scout.
